Turkey, Where to

June 13, 2011
Ghassan Kadi

Turkey has been welcomed back in the Middle East politics after it woke up to the fact that Ataturk's dream of making Turkey a part of the West was not possible. All the way from shunning Perez to his stand against Israel's attack on the Mavi Marmara, Erdogan has gained a lot of popularity in the Arab and Moslem worlds. My question is why did he single out Sarajevo, Beirut, Damascus and the Palestinian cities? Am I being paranoid in seeing that he deliberately named cities of high Sunni population? The Middle East needs Turkey back, but could Turkey just be a regional secular power?
